Put your dining points to good use

If you’re graduating or going abroad and have a ton of dining points that are about to expire, order Domino’s using your points and add a donation to St. Jude’s onto your order instead of letting that money go to waste.

Edit: Yep, you can also get half returned if you have $10 or more left. But you can get $5 back or make a $10 donation, so why not donate a little?

Anonymous How do you get into MIT frat parties?

1. Be a female.
2. Walk up to the front door.
3. Try to look hot as you’re looked up and down like a piece of meat as they judge whether you’re worthy of their sweaty, ~genius~ company.
4. Walk in.

OR

1. Be a male accompanied by five or more females.

It’s pretty terrible, actually.

Anonymous What dorms are better for freshmen?

Warren and West are the two predominantly freshmen dorms. Some info about each:

Warren

  • Close to CAS, where most of your classes will probably be.
  • Has a dining hall right in the building.
  • Close to the new dining hall at 100 Bay State Rd., which is amazing.
  • Close to pretty much everything except FitRec (the gym).
  • Each floor has a common room, so it’s extremely easy to be social and meet people. But that also means it can get really loud.
  • Security sucks. They’re really strict about people swiping in drunk on the weekends, and you can get sent to the hospital if they suspect you’ve been drinking. (Obviously most people get away with it, but sometimes people do get in trouble.)
  • Some floors are specialty floors (COM floor, engineering floor, etc.), so you can live with people with the same interests/area of study.
  • Communal bathrooms. But I promise it’s not that bad.
  • A short walk from Newbury Street for shopping, food, etc.
  • A short walk from MIT frat houses on Bay State Road.
  • They’re putting a Taco Bell and a Jamba Juice downstairs. Is that bad or good? I don’t even know.
West
  • No common rooms.
  • Communal bathrooms.
  • Newly renovated.
  • Also has specialty floors.
  • Some rooms have a nice view of Nickerson Field—but that also means you might wake up to the marching band playing loudly on a Saturday morning.
  • Close to FitRec.
  • A short walk from Allston, where most people go to party, as well as shops and restaurants in Allston and Brookline.
  • Close to Shaw’s (grocery store).
  • Close to CGS, but far from most other classroom buildings.
  • Has a dining hall that’s accessible from two of the buildings and just a few steps away from the third.

Shelton or Towers (edit: or HoJo) are also good if you want a quieter, smaller dorm.

Speak for Yourself and the Center for Gender, Sexuality, & Activism come together to bring you Drag Poetry Night on October 26th at 8:00 pm in the GSU Conference Auditorium (775 Comm Ave, 2nd floor).

We’d like to offer performance groups and individuals an opportunity to perform as genders other than their own through poetry, music, dance, improv, etc. in order to explore what we allow ourselves to do when dressed as another gender and what exactly that means for the performing arts community. The proceeds of the event will benefit Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgender Youth.

The night will have set performances by our improv and theater groups, Liquid Fun, Stage Troupe, and BU On Broadway as well as an open mic section for all kinds of performances. If you’d like to perform, sign up at the event or contact us at youspeakforyourself@gmail.com. (Please contact us beforehand if you’d like any special equipment.)

Liquid Fun will be doing a set in dressed in drag, a great way to warm up for their Halloween Show in BU Central the next night, October 27th.

Stage Troupe will be performing a scene from their upcoming production of Stop Kiss, a touching story about an LGBTQ relationship, going up the next weekend, November 1st – 3rd in the Student Theater at Agganis Arena.

BU On Broadway will be giving us some retro drag, performing the song “A Little Less Conversation” from their production of All Shook Up!, coming November 8th – 10th at 8:00 pm to Tsai Performance Center.

Tickets are $7 or $5 with your BU ID in the GSU Link the week before or at the door.

RSVP on Facebook

What are you doing tomorrow night? Hopefully wearing a ridiculous costume and getting drunk in Allston, but before that? Because you should probably be at this event.

Yes, BU, yes it is.

Our first ‘Puppy Love’ question: Help us out

butoday:

Here is our first question, which we’ll be addressing when we shoot our pilot (working title: ‘Puppy Love’) next week with Rhett:

I’m planning to go abroad to Australia next semester. I’m thrilled to be going to live in another country, but I don’t know whether I should break up with my girlfriend or not. She will be studying abroad in Spain at the same time. Though we’ve been dating for 8 months now, I’m not sure if I want to be committed while I’m across the world. I’ve heard so many stories of people who have gone abroad and hooked up with foreign girls, and I’m not sure I want to miss out on that opportunity. At the same time, I really like my girlfriend and I don’t want her to be hooking up with European men. Is it realistic to think we could make it work while on opposite ends of the world?

Give your opinion with a quick response here or on Twitter with #puppylovebu.

Uhhh I hope your girlfriend sees this and dumps you first.
